Ellis Therapy

A cognitive approach focused on identifying and changing irrational beliefs that cause emotional distress.

This approach draws from humanistic psychology and aligns with gestalt therapy. It emphasizes that emotional reactions stem not from events themselves but from how we interpret them. Our beliefs, convictions, and expectations shape these reactions, and our bodies respond to the world as we perceive and experience it.

We often recognize that our emotions harm our well-being, hinder our goals, and strain relationships. Yet we can influence our emotions by reframing our perspective on events, thereby strengthening our health. Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected, and we have the power to transform them.

Key questions to explore include: "Why do people react differently to the same events?" or "Why do I react this way?" We frequently offer explanations that don’t reflect true causes. In reality, our emotions and actions are driven by deeply held beliefs, many of which remain unconscious (which is why awareness is a cornerstone of gestalt therapy).

Rigid beliefs like "I must," "I should," or "I have to" silently govern us, fueling negative emotions that obstruct our goals and sap our vitality. Recognizing and challenging these irrational beliefs paves the way to overcoming depression, anxiety, and guilt.
