The series "13 REASONS WHY" is based on the novel by Jay Asher. The story revolves around high school student Clay and his friend Hannah, who took her own life after events that disrupted her normal life. Before leaving this world, Hannah recorded 13 tapes explaining her actions and creating a system to hold those partially responsible for her death accountable. The tapes gradually reveal the protagonist's issues, from simple indifference to violence. The above can be found in the series description, which I watched after viewing it...
Initially, when I watched the trailer for this series, I thought it would be all tears and snot—something to have on in the background while cooking, as they say for ambiance. But from the first episode, I realized I was very wrong, as it is rare to find a show that addresses such a wide range of issues. The adaptation is aimed at teenagers, but the controversial questions, morality, and constant internal debate—"What would I do in their place?", "What can I do when I see someone being bullied?", "How do my actions affect others' lives?"—are valuable regardless of age. We cannot know how others perceive us, who we are to them, or how even minor indifference can turn not just one episode but a series of negative events.
The film confronts the viewer with their own fears: loneliness, misunderstanding, rejection, humiliation, and insecurity. Status is more important than simple human feelings. Children mimic adult relationships, play adult games, and unfortunately do not fully realize that adults themselves do not understand how to love others, support them, or defend themselves constructively.
The emotions from the series are multifaceted—the adaptation amplifies all conflicted moments so that it is impossible not to engage in an internal dialogue. All the controversial aspects surrounding the series are, to some extent, justified.
This series is hard to watch, but it is important to watch it with great attention to yourself and those around you.
Have a great viewing experience, and share your impressions! :)
