Professional experience
Hello! I’m Kateryna Sarakhman. I’m a certified psychotherapist and an associate member of the National Gestalt Therapy Association of Ukraine. In my work, I use a multimodal approach, integrating gestalt therapy, art therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, though I have a deep affinity for gestalt therapy due to its sensitivity and emotional depth. Sometimes a client’s psychological defenses make it difficult to explore challenging topics, and in such cases, bodily sensations can provide valuable insights. I love working with metaphors and associations, which I actively incorporate into sessions. I’m fascinated by the diversity of human relationships and identities, which is why I’m currently specializing in gestalt therapy for gender identity, couples, and marital relationships. I’m deeply immersed in the field of neurotic, affective, and somatoform disorders (anxiety disorders, depression, psychosomatics), which are closely tied to bodily experiences. My medical education and psychiatric certification help me professionally differentiate symptoms. However, I don’t combine the roles of psychotherapist and psychiatrist for the same client, as this could create relational dissonance and complicate therapy. If medication is needed, I refer clients to psychiatrist colleagues. Every client and therapeutic process is unique—there’s no universal instruction manual. Therapy is like a personal guide to oneself, where each client’s path is individual. I continuously enhance my skills by attending courses, workshops, and masterclasses, while also being in personal therapy and working under supervision.
