An approach integrating neuroscience with psychoanalytic understanding of the mind.
Neuropsychoanalysis is an interdisciplinary field that integrates psychoanalysis and neuroscience. It is based on the study of seven core human needs, which are divided into emotional and physiological. Each of these needs has a specific localization in the brain. When these needs are unmet, individuals develop behavioral and emotional responses that hinder their well-being. Therapy identifies unmet needs, examines the mechanisms of their fulfillment, and assesses the effectiveness of these internal schemas. For example, a woman may feel irritation toward her child while having a deep need to care for them. In such cases, therapy focuses on exploring attachment issues and the need for nurturing.
