The film "The Art of Negative Thinking" allows for an analysis of the work and mistakes of a psychotherapist. The psychotherapist makes a number of rather serious errors: fails to adhere to the principle of confidentiality, shows no respect, interrupts group members, gives them direct advice on what to do and how they should feel, takes advantage of the participants' inability to physically resist the therapist, and allows themselves to make decisions for the group.
However, the main idea and the central theme of the film is that difficult, unpleasant, and negative experiences can and should be expressed. Without acknowledging and experiencing negative emotions, the prospect of inner growth and resolving a situation is almost impossible. The illusion that everything will improve if one constantly smiles deprives a person of the opportunity to feel true joy and satisfaction.
Another misconception of the psychotherapist is also subtly revealed here. A therapist who believes themselves to be exceptionally knowledgeable and well-versed in the situation is doomed to fail. Only in the situation (at the end of the film) when they join the group and feel awkward can they truly listen to others and be ready to learn from the group rather than only teaching it.
