The book "Girl Online" was written by English fashion blogger Zoe Sugg. It tells the story of Penny, a 16-year-old teenage girl. Penny suffers from panic attacks after a car accident, gets into various school troubles, is passionate about photography, has a friend named Elliot, and also runs her own blog "Girl Online," where she honestly and without embellishment shares various life situations that happen to her...

girl online⠀Critics tore it apart, claiming it has no literary value, though the book addresses many social issues relevant to adolescence.

  • Relationships between girls and boys. What are healthy relationships like? What should they be? Are conflicts normal in such relationships? What is important to discuss as a couple?
  • Boundaries. How to set your boundaries? How to feel confident in awkward situations? How to stand up for your opinion? How to be yourself?
  • Family and friends. Who is the support in our problematic situations? Can you ask for help when necessary?

This book answers all these questions.

At first glance, Penny’s story seems aimed at girls, but that’s not the case.
It will also be very useful for parents, who may recall their own teenage years, the difficulties they faced, the thoughts that overwhelmed them at the time, and situations where the problems seemed insurmountable.

When studying teenage literature, I first pay attention to its usefulness and relevance. The book "Girl Online" caught my attention by addressing the issue of panic attacks. A panic attack is an incomprehensible, unbearable sudden episode of intense fear that triggers severe physical reactions without real danger or visible cause. This issue runs through the entire book like a red thread. The story shows us the emotional state of the heroine, her feelings and sensations. The book even offers some exercises to help reduce emotional tension during panic attacks.

As an adult, I experienced a whole range of emotions while reading this book. I immersed myself in my own feelings, recalled teenage fears, first love, and awkward school situations. The book left me with a pleasant aftertaste of lightness.
